Hi. This is a shot from the "There are four lights" scene in star trek tng series i did last week. I don't know why, but this particular image was a real pain in the but to edit into a happy form.

Critique all you like, but what I'm really interested in is seeing what you would do with this out of camera shot.

ReEdit away in your particular style and tell me why you did what you did. I'll probably learn somethung cool.

We're only working with a jpg?

I think the better option is to upload your SOOC to Dropbox and put the link here so people can work with the best possible resolution.

Omg. Then reduce it again to reupload it?

Not sure I follow you.

Why would you need to reduce it? The point of uploading to Dropbox instead of attaching it here is so people can download and work with a hi res file.

You'd simply paste the link here to the download, not embedding it.

EDIT: Ah you mean for the retouchers? Of course, you don't need them to deliver a high res file but they need one to work with.

Ha... i meant, ya download the photo hi res edit it then post a low res photo back here. I guess they could post a link too... i just dont have dropbox.

Im a cloud tech troglodyte.

Years ago i was really into thephotoforum.com before cloud memory was a thing... they had a section dedicated to reEdits, and all you ever had to work with was 1000px jpg  . It was a ton of fun. Ill look into some high res storage, but for now what you have is what you've got.

Sorry y'all .

I know where you are coming from. My second shooter forgot to switch her camera to RAW once.... i was really annoyed when i got into PP. I used to be an anti RAW snob... until i got used to what you could do with it, and how many times it saved my but with on the fly exposure gaffs.

I gave it a quick go...

As always, I work from the story I would like to bring across.

Looking at the original image, i was confused on what is this about... yet,  of course it is about Picard, Madred and those lights
Also, this is a relatively dark scene in the TNG-verse.
The lights in itself are a symbol for Picard freedom of mind and sanity.

So, how to give a sense of this all without changing the compositional choice you made.

I added vignette, to darken the scene and put the focus on Picard and Madred. The lights I kept bright (even brightend them a little).
I desaturated the image a little to convey the grim situation Picard is in. Lastly the main scene has been made a little blueish and the lights+their surroundings (the freedom etc) are more yellowish (barely noticable, but its there...

Oh, and I cropped juuuust a little  ????

Ya ya ya. Seeing it vignetted now, I think id even crop it way more and chop off the whole lower portion. Maybe 4:5.

Agreed! I wanted to stay within your assignment as much as possible ????

anyway, the rest of the edits are harder to see at this resolution i see now; but indeel the reasoning behind them are more inportant.

My quick try on mobile.

I thought it was way too blue, largely in part due to the bluish gray tone of the bricks, so I adjusted the color.

I was tempted to make this 4:3 to fit with the old TV aspect ratio but decided 5:4 worked better.

I emphasized the lights more, even gave them spotlights on the floor.

I would've changed the color of the Cardassian's skin but couldn't get my fingers that precise on mobile.

Also, a vignette to add to the darkness of the scene (even though TNG lighting was crap, even lighting most of the time).

Funny to see how different persons might think in opposites each for their own reasons

The only thing I want more blue is the Cardassian!  ????

The flesh tone is killing me. Please address this immediately, @therearefourlegos  ????
